A lot of things... most of which wouldn't be safe to mention online. LOL! But when I was 9, riding a ferry with my grandparents and grandma scolded me for getting too close to the railing and told me to stay away from it... well... How could I? It was like a double dog dare! So of course when she went inside to get out of the wind, I immediately went to the railing, climbed up to sit on it, then hooked my knees around and hung backwards by them over the churning water.
My sister must have tattle on me, because all too soon I heard my grandmother's shriek and she was pulling me up, scolding me, and spanking me as soon as she had me off the railing.
This was impressive because she was able to do it all so fast, she with her bad legs that were hard for her to walk on let alone run.
Grandma was afraid to tell my mother about the incident for some reason, but I didn't find that out until just this year when my mother mentioned how I'd made my grandmother a basket case by leaning over the railing on the ferry repeatedly when she'd told me to stay away... how she'd had to spank me for it and didn't want to take me on the ferry again.
I looked at her blankly for moment, suddenly realizing what she was talking about, and asked, "That's what she told you?"
"Yes! That's what she said you did to her!"
"She lied."
"She what?"
And then I told her what had really happened.
After all these years, I swear she still wanted to spank me afterwards.
I was such a bad little girl! A nightmare child I'm afraid. I'm sorry poor hapless world my mama turned me lose on by mistake!
